David Occhipinti is without doubt one of Canada’s greatest jazz talents and best-known guitarists. His lines of music are melodic and inspired, and refreshingly original. He is also tremendously personable and a pleasure to see in concert.

He is also described as satiny-toned and mood-evoking, with tasteful uses of rhythmic displacement and tonal choices. He is without doubt one of Canada’s best jazz conceptualists.

Some highlights:

  • Saxophonist Mike Murley and guitarist David Occhipinti began playing in and around Toronto as a duo in 1999. The intimate musical rapport that they developed during this period led to their eventual recording of the Duologue CD in November of 2002. This critically acclaimed recording was nominated for a Juno Award, a national jazz award and a Canadian Music “Indie” award in 2004.
  • He teaches guitar at Humber College and at the University of Toronto.
  • He studied with the famous Jim Hall in New York in the 1990s.
  • David has received extensive positive review of his work and playing in Toronto in numerous magazines
