Friday, June 1 – Dave O’Neil Quartet with Dave Wiffen

Dave O’Neill brings diverse talent as a drummer and vibraphonist to the stage. His extensive contemporary backdrop, festival tours and years accompagnying dancers provide the calibre behind the kit. This versatility is combined with an artistry that surfaces gems off the beaten track. It’s a tack that brings a new face to standards of artists like Victor Young, Cole Porter and A.C. Jobim.

Dave’s trio features long-time musical companions Mark Ucci on guitar, and Meredith Nelson on bass. It’s hard to fathom the connection these musicians have developed over two decades on stage together. Joining them is very special guest artist, Dave Wiffen on the tenor saxophone.

Dave holds a Bachelor of Education in Music from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto, and a Diploma of Music from Mohawk College in Hamilton.

He has studied with drummers Barry Elmes, Bob McLaren, Ernie Porthouse, Kevin Dempsey, and John Cheeseman. Dave has studied with Latin percussionists Memo Acevedo and Rodrigo Chavez, and African dance drumming with Joseph Ashong.
