Local hero Rebecca Binnendyk returns to the Jazz Room with her quartet for a special Jazz Festival Mid Day show. She promises some Pop, Rock, and straight ahead jazz for this gig.
Rebecca showed an interest in the performing arts at a very young age and began studying and performing music at the age of nine. She learned how to play the piano, trumpet and then the guitar, before majoring in voice and receiving her Honours Bachelor of Music Therapy (BMusTh) and her B.Ed. all from Wilfrid Laurier University.
While her musical experience ranges from classical to pop and everything in between, she discovered her passion for Jazz while fronting the 18-piece Stardust Big Band. Her influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Eva Cassidy and more recently, Sophie Milman, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Amy Winehouse which she culminates to create a rich, soulful style of her own.
