A Montreal native, Benjamin Deschamps started learning about music at Collège Notre-Dame where he chose to play classic saxophonone. Pushed by his profound desire to become a musician, he persued his musical studies at Cégep Saint-Laurent with Jean-Pierre Zanella.

It is during this period that he discovered his passion for jazz and joined the Montreal All City Big Band as lead alto. He played in the group from 2006 to 2010 which gave him the opportunity amongst other things, to participate in the recording of the album Lulu Hughes & The Montreal All City Big Band.

Benjamin went to McGill University to further his understanding and enlarge his musical horizons. It is while playing lead alto in the Jazz Orchestra 1 under the direction of Gordon Foote that he had the chance to meet many internationaly renowned invited artists such as Phil Dwyer, Jim McNeely, Ben Monder, Joe Lovano, Barry Ries and Slide Hampton. The young musician stands out by his ability to interpret many musical styles and his versatility in his ability to play flute, clarinet and all the saxophones.
