BBT with John Macleod 2018Big Band Theory

Can we fit them all on the stage??? Yes we Can!

The Big Band Theory had its genesis in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, without any clear idea where this project might end up. And… WOW! what an explosion of sound when seventeen of Kitchener-Waterloo’s (and beyond) most talented jazzers showed up for that first rehearsal in October 2011.

The band’s music ranges from the danceable swing music of Benny Goodman’s orchestra and Sammy Nestico to Jazz Rock of the 1970s right up to the extraordinary contemporary sound of the Big Phat Band of L.A. The Big Band Theory is an exciting band to listen to and hear live.

For the gig, the band will be joined by guest conductor, arranger: John Macleod, leader of the Rex Hotel Orchestra. He is joining BBT for this special show along with guest trumpet player Steve McDade (Mantecca, Boss Brass, Rob McConnell…)

From the Rex Hotel Orchestra (RHO) website: In 2003 the Rex Hotel Orchestra made its debut performance at the Rex Jazz Club in Toronto. Under the leadership of veteran jazz trumpet player/composer/arranger John MacLeod, the RHO is a collection of the top jazz and studio musicians in Canada. All of the music that they perform is written specifically for them by the leader or other members of the band. In addition to concert and jazz festival appearances, they have performed once a month at the Rex continually since their inception. The band has been nominated twice for Juno Awards and their debut CD – OUR FIRST SET received the Juno award for Traditional Jazz Album of the year in 2011. Their most recent recording is being released by JazzFM and is a celebration of Toronto’s big band legacy – THE TORONTO SOUND
