“She is what we call serious.”Oscar Peterson

“Canada’s prodigiously talented bassist handles her bass violin with as much visceral audacity as the great Charles Mingus once did, a fact that might raise the question of feminine power. Listening to her is like putting your finger into a naked power-socket.”  –Whole Note Magazine

Jazz contrabassist, singer, composer, Brandi Disterheft, has captivated audiences in Canada, Europe, Japan, China, Haiti and even the coveted Carnegie Hall. It’s not only her fiery bass playing that make audiences stand-up and holler, but also her innovative live shows as she sings in both English and French showcasing her ambient and dreamy voice. Winning a JUNO for her “Debut” album (Superfran Records), Brandi is currently signed to Montreal’s Justin Time Records with whom she had the honor of recording with icons Oliver Jones and Hank Jones on the album “Pleased to Meet You” that earned a Grammy in 2011.

Brandi is currently touring her forth album “Blue Canvas” featuring an all-star New York City line-up with jazz master Harold Mabern and the great Joe Farnsworth. In her eloquent liner notes, the multi-talented musician reminds us of the Muses of Ancient Greece philosophized by Plato, and how these Gods and Godesses would lead the artist into a state of ecstasy. And such are the feelings that lead her to state that: “This album tells a story about that escape to freedom and the unyielding feeling of coming alive.”

Joe Farnsworth (Drums)  is known as one of the most recorded drummers on the scene, with over 70 cd’s behind him, for musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Cedar Walton, Pharoah Sanders, Eric Alexander and Benny Golson. His first recording as a leader, “Beautiful Friendship” (Crisscross Records) featured pianist Cedar Walton and trumpeteer Eddie Henderson while his second, “It’s Prime Time” (88 Records) included special guest artists Ron Carter, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson and Harold Mabern, Jr.

During his over half-century on the scene as sideman and leader, Harold Mabern (Piano)  has played and recorded with such greats as Lee Morgan, Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis, just to name a few. Critic Gary Giddins has written, “With the wind at his back, he can sound like an ocean roar.”
