Saturday, Dec. 3 ~ Richard Whiteman Trio
Cover charge: $16/person
You may have heard Richard Whiteman before… But… Maybe not like this!!!
The Richard Whiteman Trio is led by veteran Toronto pianist Richard Whiteman playing his second instrument, the double bass.
As a pianist Richard has led groups in Toronto for over twenty years and has recorded seven CDs as a leader and many others a sideman. He so much enjoyed working with great bassists like Neil Swainson, Mike Downes, Pat Collins, Don Thompson and Brandi Disterheft that he took up the bass seven years ago and has been leading groups as a bassist for over two years.
His current trio features pianist Amanda Tosoff and – for tonight – the excellent Morgan Childs on drums.
Originally from White Rock BC, Amanda studied jazz at Capilano College in Vancouver and firmly established herself in the Vancoiuver jazz scene before moving to Toronto in 2009. She has worked with Ingrid Jensen, Don Thompson, Phil Dwyer, Ross Taggart and Campbell Ryga. She leads her own quartet and has recorded 2 CDs on the reknowned Cellar Live label.
Richard says of Amanda: “When I first heard Amanda in Vancouver a few years ago I was impressed by her groove, ideas and overall musicianship. I am very happy that she has become part of the Toronto jazz scene. One of the joys of playing bass is the chance to play with my favourite fellow pianists. You’re in for a treat if you haven’t heard her music.”
Come join us for a night to remember!
