Eric DiVito is pivotal on the New York jazz scene as composer, educator and guitarist. His music is demanding and compelling, drawing in bop, pop, classical, Latin and other styles into rhythmically shifting tunes.
“His acumen without a pick carries over to a smokin’ fingerpicked solo featured on “Shoot The Messenger.” “Pass Time,” written with Joe Pass in mind, is a great tribute to the master.” – Something Else Reviews
In addition to his dynamic quartet lead, he is the vision behind Pepperspray, New York’s premiere Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band since 2006.
Derek Hines’ book of vocals is quite diverse. The themes focus on traditional standards from Evans to Monk. The sub-plots are a jazz take on legends from Lennon/McCartney to Jimmy Webb.
Derek is known across the region as a creative and thoughtful interpreter of jazz ballads. This touching rendition of In the wee small hours surfaces candid lines that feature Hines and Chapman. A gently swinging lyrical groove that has the feel of a duet between baritone and double bass.
