Drawing on the broken beat scene of West London … Rich Brown lays it down. Toronto electric bassist Rich Brown formed rinsethealgorithm in 2004 with a modern take on this idea that jazz was the original dance music. With a deep calm that delivers, every line is rooted in melodic concepts and a heavily groove-oriented rhythmic base.
“Beyond his credits, which are impressive, I heard a seriously soulful player with a very impressive command of his instrument.” – Bass Musician Magazine
Last year’s show brought the jazz room to it’s feet, with punchy, funky, and off-beat lines. Look to the custom six-string Stratocaster to bring the jazz-funk scene of Weather Report, Miles Davis, and Steve Coleman to contemporary form.
Always fluid and assertive, Luiz Deniz returns to the jazz room on alto saxophone with band member Larnell Lewis delivering his mesmerizing rhythm on the kit. Chris Donnelly comes prepared to stir it up on electric keys and acoustic piano.
Some highlights for Rich Brown:
- 2008 release of debut CD Locutions with rave reviews (rinsethealgorithm)
- twice nominated for the “Electric Group of the Year” Canada National Jazz Award
- worked with Carol Welsman, Bruce Cockburn, Vernon Reid, Steve Coleman…
