This November, Toronto-born, NYC-based jazz vocalist Melissa Stylianou embarks on a 4
city tour of Quebec and Ontario to support her recent release “Silent Movie”. This one night
only engagement marks Melissa’s second time playing at The Jazz Room, but the first time
bringing up her NYC band, with whom she has a monthly residency at 55 Bar, another
favorite club of jazz aficionados and musicians alike.
Over the past twelve years, Stylianou has recorded five albums and found a musical kinship
with diverse composers and songwriters (her second album “bachelorette*”, released in
2001, features compositions by both Bjork and Fats Waller), as well as discovering her own
voice as a composer and lyricist. “Sliding Down”, released in 2006, features five original
pieces, and her fourth album “Silent Movie”, released Spring 2012 on Anzic Records,
combines her own music with a mixture of songs crossing many genre boundaries. Silent
Movie earned 4 1/2 stars in DownBeat Magazine among other critical raves, and Stylianou
was nominated as one of the Top 10 Rising Star Jazz Vocalists in the DownBeat 2012
Critics Poll.
