Simply among the finest jazz bassists anywhere, Dave Young is as close as we can get to jazz royalty—both in Canada and abroad.
“To my way of thinking, Dave Young is one of the most talented bassists on the jazz scene. His harmonic sympatico and unerring sense of time have kept him in the foreground of the jazz picture.” – Dr. Oscar Peterson
A steady sideman for years with both Oscar Peterson and Oliver Jones, Dave drew on years with the Winnipeg symphony and the Hamilton Philharmonic. Emerging as a leader in his third musical re-birth, and his second release Fables and Dreams received a JUNO award with co-lead Phil Dwyer. Dave Young is also the winner, several times over, of the prestigious National Jazz Award “Bassist of the Year”.
Dave is a living legend with the bass duet, and his melodic purpose is a stunning parallel with Robi Botos in Unanswered and with Reg Schwager in New Delft Blues.
“…Flawless time, big buoyant tone and bold solo ideas…keen instincts and depth of musicality. The results of (his playing) are a testament to his ability to listen and adapt his concept of time from player to player.” – Bill Milkowski, JAZZ TIMES
Always found with the best in the business, joining Young will be a quartet without rival including Robi Botos (piano), Reg Schwager (guitar) and Terry Clarke (drums). This performance is likely to feature elements from Young’s recent recording Aspects of Oscar, as well as the swinging album Mean What You Say recorded with Robi Botos. Prepare yourself to hear one of Canada’s great musicians right here in THE JAZZ ROOM.
