Join the Jakob Durst Quintet as they welcome special guest Morgan Childs for a swingin’ night of music in the lineage of the great Gene Ammons/Sonny Stitt and Johnny Griffin/“Lockjaw” Davis Quintets!
Jakob Durst is a young and devoted student of many musical forms. Although drawing his main influence from creative and improvised music, namely the Black American Art-form “Jazz”, he is also interested in a variety of other musical stylings such as Classical, Latin, and African music. Jakob’s primary instrument is the tenor saxophone, however he has also learned and studied a variety of other instruments including flute, clarinet, and piano. The dedication Jakob shows towards music has lead him to study and perform with many great artists, including Mike Murley, Marianne Trudel, Kelly Jefferson, Ted Warren, Luis Deniz, and many more. Additionally, Jakob was admitted to study at U of T’s prestigious Faculty of Music on scholarship, and started his Bachelor studies last fall.
Morgan Childs has built an international career as a performer and educator with some of the world’s finest musicians. Morgan is highly regarded among his peers for his deep swing feel, sensitivity, versatility and musicality, as well as his reverence for jazz history and wide-ranging musical vocabulary.
