Stealing Dan can trace its beginnings back to 2003 when they played their first gig at the Starlight Club in uptown Waterloo. Out of a profound love of the celebrated band, Steely Dan, they started out as a 7-piece band and grew into what it is today. It’s founder, Peter de Sousa busied himself expanding the band, furiously arranging charts for lead singer/guitar, keyboard, bass, drums, four horns including two saxophones, trumpet, trombone and backing vocalists. Tonight’s performance will hold 9 exceptional performers. The name “Steely Dan,” born after a prosthetic phallus from a William Burroughs’ novel, ‘Naked Lunch’ really describes the eccentric and tongue-in-cheek style of lyrics and music.
