Ted Gibbons - 1

Ted Gibbons is the quintessential gentleman jazz player. His guitar and band-leading chops are impeccable as this group promises to wind their way around known and less-known standards in what will be a night to remember. As an educator, Ted is beloved in the community, and this is an opportunity for teacher to shine. Gibbons has a knack for seducing the audience with his pure musicianship, and ability to make the music sing and dance.

Ted has assembled a stellar group of the region’s musicians for this show including…

Andriy Tykhonov – Piano. A graduate of the Jazz Department of the Glier State Music College of Kiev in 1995, Andriy is recognized as a prominent Jazz pianist now living in the Waterloo Region. He has been a regular performer at various venues in Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph. Moreover, he has been recognized for crafting three attention-getting CDs in the recent past, including “Live from the Floor,” “Live in Manhattans,” and “One More Time.

Karl Stevenson – Bass. Karl is a  long-time resident of K-W who  has had the good fortune to learn his craft in a community rich in musical talent. Comfortable in all styles, Karl ably doubles on both upright and fretless bass. An experienced sideman who has had the opportunity to play with the likes of Peter Appleyard, Jane Bunnett and John Sherwood,  believes strongly that all technique must defer to maintaining the groove.

Gary Tomlin – Drums. Gary is a well-known percussionist in the K-W area. He started playing drums while attending K-W Collegiate and has worked in many aspects of percussion. He was head of percussion at Waterloo Music for 10 years and worked 25 years as percussion specialist with the Separate School Board. He has conducted clinics and served as an adjudicator for many music competitions across Canada. For many years Gary has taught privately through the Tomlin Percussion Studio and at Sherwood Music in Kichener.  Gary is a graduate of the Advanced School of Contemporary Music, where he studied with Ed Thigpen, Ray Brown, and Oscar Peterson.
